Teachers must train students in AI, ChatGPT: PU VC

LAHORE: (Wednesday, February 04, 2026): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has said that teachers must provide education and training to their students in artificial intelligence (AI) and ChatGPT. He was addressing the 5th graduation ceremony of Punjab University Institute of Education and Research at Faisal Auditorium here on Wednesday.
On the occasion, Dean Faculty of Education Prof Dr Muhammad Shahid Farooq, IER Director Prof Dr Abdul Qayyum Chaudhry, vice chancellors of universities, heads of departments, faculty members, students and their parents were present. In his address, Dr Muhammad Ali said that the PU IER is the best institution for teacher training across Pakistan. He stated that modern technology has further enhanced the importance of teachers. He said that teachers’ responsibilities in educating students are as important outside the classroom as they are inside it. He emphasized that teachers are also responsible for making their graduates employable, as well as for shaping them into civilized citizens and good human beings. Congratulating the students who received degrees and medals, he advised them to always take care of their parents in order to achieve success in life. He said that the true measure of success is not wealth, but knowledge and piety. He added that becoming the VC of PU is no less than an honor, but acquiring knowledge is essential to attain such a position. Prof Dr Abdul Qayyum Chaudhry said that the IER has a proud history of producing capable graduates, which enhances its significance. He stated that just as education is a fundamental right of every child, it is also every child’s right to receive quality education under the guidance of the best teachers. He said that teachers are the guardians of the nation who nurture every generation. He further said that at the ceremony, degrees were being awarded to 127 M.Phil Education students, 15 B.Ed (1.5 year) students and 717 undergraduate students. He added that 60 research articles by the institute’s faculty members have been published in national and international journals, while faculty members have also participated in 30 national and international conferences, workshops, exhibitions, seminars, and symposiums. Later, Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali awarded degrees and medals to the successful students.
