Water is foundation of life: PU VC
![]() LAHORE: (Friday, November 14, 2025): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said water is the foundation of life for the survival of all living beings; humans, animals and plants depend entirely on water. He was addressing a seminar on “Impact of Water on Pakistan’s Economy”, organized by a Forum for Advocacy of Innovative Research (FAIR) at PU Zoological Museum. On this occasion, Founding President of PILDAT Ahmed Bilal Mehboob, Pro-VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, representatives of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, faculty members and a large number of students were present. In his address, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that water is the single most essential element for human survival. He shared authentic data and presented a well-reasoned analysis of the economic implications of water scarcity in the context of Pakistan’s growing population and changing climate. He appreciated the efforts of the organizer for a fruitful event. He reaffirmed that PU will always remain open to initiatives and collaborations addressing issues of national importance. Ahmed Bilal Mehboob highlighted the gravity of Pakistan’s water crisis, its economic implications, and the urgent need for efficient utilization of the country’s water resources. Abdul Basit, Prof Dr Qais Aslam, Dr Shabbir Ahmad Khan, Zain Iftikhar Chaudhry, Malik Manzoor-ul-Haq, Suleman Khan, Dr Zainab Ahmad and Ms Shaza Kaleem Usmani discussed the current status of Pakistan’s water reservoirs, their potential benefits and the challenges confronting sustainable management. They agreed that immediate and effective measures are essential to address water-related issues.
