Innovation, respect, tolerance key for progress: PU VC

LAHORE: (Saturday, February 14, 2026): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has said that innovation, respect for others, and tolerance among students are essential for success in practical life and for the progress of institutions. He was addressing the PU’s 135th convocation organized at Faisal Auditorium here on Saturday.
On this occasion, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Registrar Dr Ahmad Islam, Controller of Examinations Muhammad Rauf Nawaz, deans of various faculties, heads of departments, faculty members, students and their parents attended the ceremony.
A total of 334 PhD degrees were awarded at the ceremony. Students of MS/MPhil programs received 124 gold medals, while 153 gold medals were awarded to undergraduate students. In addition, degrees were conferred upon 1,040 students from various disciplines during the convocation. In his address, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali stated that only those nations progress in the world that excel in knowledge and research. He emphasized the need to produce skilled youth who can serve society in the future, adding that teachers, parents, and students must all play an equal role in this regard. He said that teachers play a pivotal role in any university, and that PU faculty members are making the country proud not only in Pakistan but across the world. He advised students to measure success not by wealth and power, but by knowledge and piety.
The Vice Chancellor remarked that PU graduates are serving as ambassadors of Pakistan and the university around the globe. He said that everyone should take pride in being associated with the country’s premier alma mater. He further stressed that graduates should be strong not only in science and technology but also in moral, spiritual, and personal development. Sharing his experience of overseeing academic and administrative affairs at several universities, he noted that significant steps have been taken within one year to improve the academic system and ensure financial stability at PU. He said that work is underway to digitize PU for the first time. Important reforms are also being introduced in applied research, science, fisheries and other disciplines to improve rankings. He added that reclaiming university land from illegal occupants was also among his responsibilities. He stated that efforts are being made to facilitate students through the University Management System and to provide improved residential facilities in hostels. He said that laboratories at PU are being upgraded in line with modern standards. He congratulated the students who received degrees and medals, as well as their parents and teachers.
