Institute of Information Management (IIM), PU celebrated the Commencement Week 2025
![]() The Institute of Information Management (IIM), University of the Punjab celebrated the Commencement Week 2025 with great zeal and fervor. The freshmen (students) were warmly welcomed and the program focused on building their academic and creative strength. On 08- 09 -2025, The week started with a lively, vibrant and significant Orientation Session based on welcome activities, faculty introduction, showcasing high achievers and eminent alumni in the discipline of Library and Information Management. Dr. Alia Arshad (Coordinator BS Program) opened the session with the introduction of the IIM faculty & staff, later on sharing a brief history & significance of the discipline and awareness about academic programs & semester rules. Dr. Muhammad Rafiq (Controller Exam & student advisor) and Dr. Irfan Ali gave a briefing on examination & grading system and better ways to thrive through it followed by discussing University’s anti-smoking, anti-drug policy & zero tolerance for students being influenced by the Vested Interest Groups, encouraging students to stand strong and support each other in building a healthy, safe university environment. Later on, an ‘Alumni & High achievers showcase’ session was arranged coordinated by Dr. Muzammil Tahira, which highlighted the achievements of discipline’s most prominent alumni who are excelling at various higher ranks nationally and internationally. Students were inspired and motivated by the in-person talks, pictorial and video messages shared by the notable alumni. A special highlight of the orientation was the inspiring address by our respected Director IIM, Prof. Dr. Shafiq Ur Rehman, who warmly welcomed the new batch to the Institute of Information Management. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of discipline, integrity, and lifelong learning, encouraging students to embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. He highlighted IIM’s vision of preparing students to become not only skilled information professionals but also responsible citizens, capable of contributing positively to the society. The Director also reminded students of the institute’s strong tradition of excellence and urged them to make full use of the academic resources, faculty guidance, and extracurricular opportunities available at IIM. His words set a motivating tone for the journey ahead, leaving students inspired to aim high and stay committed to both personal and academic growth. The program closed with introduction of the IIM Literary Society cabinet members and stellar performances by students of the Society that filled the atmosphere with songs and poetry, showcasing the creative spirit that makes our community so special. ![]() As a part of the Commencement Week series, a daylong activity was organized for the students on Academic Excellence on September 10, 2025. The session comprised of two parts; Awareness regarding Digital Literacy and Library Research tools and the other session focused on skill building in terms of better academic skills and Time Management Techniques. Ms Mehreen Tahir (Librarian, IIM) delivered an engaging and interactive session on “Digital Literacy and IIM Library Resources & Services” in which she discussed about the library’s print collection, usage rights, rules & regulations, facts & figures, in-house resources and services and introduced them to Library’s Information Literacy Program. She gave an on-spot demonstration on the use & access of HEC Digital Library Databases and IIM Library OPAC. Students were given detailed awareness on Plagiarism, its various types, ways to avoid it and the university’s plagiarism policy. Afterwards, Mr. Kamran Shahid (Motivational Speaker) delivered an engaging presentation on ‘Study Skills and Time Management’. He shared practical strategies to help students manage their academic workload effectively, balance priorities, and develop habits that foster long-term success. His session provided students with valuable insights on how to plan, stay organized, and approach their studies with confidence and focus. Both sessions held great relevance and importance in terms of making students aware of the library resources, while also empowering them with tools for academic success and personal growth. The session closed with the inspiring remarks of the Director IIM, Prof. Dr. Shafiq Ur Rehman and presenting the bouquet to the invited speaker, appreciating the efforts for conducting an engaging session. ![]() Tweet Follow @pu_lhr_official |
