PU takes out rally to express solidarity with Kashmiris


LAHORE: (Thursday, February 6, 2025): Punjab University Human Rights Chair has taken out a rally from the School of Communication Studies to the Institute of Business and Information Technology to express solidarity with Kashmiris here on Thursday.
All departments of the School of Communication Studies participated in the rally organized under the leadership of Prof Dr Abida Ashraf, Head of the Human Rights Chair and School of Communication Studies.
On this occasion, Chairperson of the Department of Public Relations and Advertising Dr Faiza Latif, Associate Professor Dr Shabbir Sarwar, Assistant Professor Dr Akram Soomro, faculty members and a large number of students were present.

In her address, Dr Abida Ashraf said that Kashmir is like a prison under Indian occupation. She said that the constitutional rights of the people have been taken away along with their human rights in occupied Kashmir. She said that the Kashmir issue is not an internal but an international issue. She said that occupied Kashmir is one of the most militarized region in the world. She said that the implementation of UN resolutions on the Kashmir issue is mandatory. She said that the UN seems to be silent on the violations of minority rights in occupied Kashmir. Dr Shabbir Sarwar said that the world has badly ignored the issue of occupied Kashmir. He said that India is changing the demographics of occupied Kashmir. Dr Faiza Latif said that peace cannot be established in the world without establishing peace in Kashmir. Later, a discussion was also held in Faiz Ahmad Faiz seminar room in which speakers highlighted various aspects of Kashmir issue.
