PU VC inaugurates indigenous library management system
![]() LAHORE: (Thursday, July 31, 2025): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has launched the new software system “KOHA Integrated Library Management System” in Punjab University Library. In this regard the inaugural ceremony was held at PU Library on Thursday. On this occasion, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Chief Librarian Dr Muhammad Haroon Usmani, DG SES Prof Dr Rehan Sadiq, faculty members and librarians were also present. In his address, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali appreciated the team behind the initiative and emphasized the broader significance of libraries in the educational landscape. He said that education systems are meant to impart education, and libraries are made to impart knowledge. Librarians play a crucial role not only within universities but also in shaping society, he added. Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood commended the relentless hard work and commitment of the PUL team, acknowledging their role in ensuring a smooth and effective transition to the new system. Dr Usmani briefed the participants about the digital transformation journey of the PU Library. He shared that the library had been operating on in-house developed software named ‘MLIMS’ since 2007. In 2023, the decision was taken to shift to the internationally recognized open-source software ‘KOHA’ to enhance the efficiency and user-friendliness of library services. He said that with the dedicated efforts and technical expertise of the professional librarians at PUL, KOHA was successfully installed and customized to meet the specific needs of the university. He said that the library marked a significant milestone in its journey toward modernization with the formal inauguration of the “KOHA Integrated Library Management System”. The event concluded with a renewed commitment to further strengthen the university’s library services through innovation, collaboration, and continued professional excellence.
